My name is Brigid Marcoux and I am currently a freshman at Indiana University in Bloomington! I am currently a Teaching All Learners (TAL) major here in Bloomington, which is a double major in Elementary/Special Education! Before coming to Indiana, I lived in Oswego, Illinois, which is a southwest suburb of Chicago! I grew up in quite a large family (6 siblings), so there was always something exciting happening in my house! I have a passion for working with special needs children; in fact in high school I worked as an inclusion companion for disabled children and adults! After graduating from Indiana University with a bachelor's degree, I hope to be able to share my desire to teach with my future students in a classroom of my own!
I have wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember! Growing up, I was always in the classroom, as my mom was a teacher!I was always so excited to visit her school and interact with her students! Looking back, I definitely can thank my mom for developing my passion for learning and teaching at such a young age! In high school, I realized that I wanted to be an elementary school teacher, particularly a 2nd grade teacher. Not only did I visit my mom's 2nd grade class frequently when I was younger, but this was also my favorite year of elementary school! Hopefully, I can make 2nd grade an exciting year for my own future students!
As a future teacher, I believe that students should extremely involved in the learning process! From personal experience, learning in a more engaging and enhanced environment helps students retain knowledge and feel more involved in the lesson! In my future classroom, I hope to have students working with each other and independently to come to conclusions for problems on their own! Not only this, but I hope to create classroom community where students can express their thoughts and ideas in a welcoming environment of students who are eager to learn!
Technology is a great way to engage students, especially younger students! In my classroom, I hope to engage students by incorporating different games and activities that go along with what we are learning in the classroom! For example, I hope to involve resources, like ClassDojo and apps, like Seesaw, to enhance the learning environment and engage my future students! I believe it is important to use tools like this in the classroom, as students are growing up in such a technological advanced world! It is our job as teachers to prepare our students for this world and the ever changing aspects of it!
